Salt Lake City and Murray: different errands

Salt Lake Sewciety in the Ballpark neighborhood focuses on apparel fabrics and sewing classes, not quilting cotton. Sewtopia in the Holladay/Murray area adds modern quilt fabric, bag-making supplies, and partner longarm drop-off. Its official contact page lists Murray; it is a metro-area option, not a city-proper shop.

Sandy, if you only go one place

Three shops, and two of them sit a few blocks apart on historic Main Street: Quilt Etc. at number 11 and Quilts on the Corner at 208. Park once, walk between them. Quilt Etc. covers traditional quilt-shop needs, while Quilts on the Corner emphasizes wide backing, longarm services, and INNOVA machines.

Heartfelt a few minutes away combines quilting with a large scrapbooking department, and it stays open until seven.

West Jordan, for machines and ideas

Pine Needles at Gardner Village combines quilting, cross-stitch, embroidery, and wool handwork. The Grace Company builds Q’nique longarm machines and Grace frames and now has an on-site quilt shop. Fabric Center is the broad general-fabric option.

The rest

The Quilter’s Lodge in Draper is a quilt shop with ten guest rooms and a longarm studio attached, which makes it the most complete setup in the state. Nuttall’s has branches in Murray and Riverton for machine servicing.

Practical notes

Almost everything closes Sunday and most close at five or six. The exceptions are worth memorizing: Heartfelt and Fabric Center run until seven, and The Quilter’s Lodge until eight on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Three guilds meet here. The Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild is the one to know if you work daytime hours, since it meets in the evening and runs a monthly all-day sew day — most Utah guilds meet at ten on a weekday morning.
