Choose supplies for your technique
Start with the pattern's materials list. Counted cross-stitch, surface embroidery, wool appliqué and punch needle can require different fabric, needles and thread. A shop carrying one category does not necessarily stock the exact supplies for another.
- For cross-stitch, bring the chart's fabric count, finished size and floss numbers.
- For wool appliqué, check the required wool pieces, background, thread and finishing materials.
- For embroidery, confirm whether a design is preprinted, iron-on, downloadable or must be transferred by hand.
- For punch needle, match the needle, thread or yarn, foundation cloth and frame to the pattern's instructions.
Check what a kit actually includes
A kit may supply the pattern and main fabric but leave out thread, needles, backing, stuffing or a hoop. Read the item description and ask about substitutions before buying. For a multi-part project, check whether the price covers one installment or the whole series.
