Quilting in Iron County

Iron County has no verified walk-in quilt shop, but it has an unusually strong quilting community for a rural county. Cedar City supports a weekly guild, a multi-day retreat, a large public fall quilt show, an online quilting-cotton business with local pickup, and a major 2026 hospital service project. Parowan adds a separate county-fair quilt exhibition over Labor Day weekend.

Weekly guild meetings in Cedar City

Cedar Chest Quilters’ Guild meets at 10 a.m. every Thursday at the Cedar City Senior Center, 489 E. 200 South. Programs include classes, workshops, block-of-the-month projects, and humanitarian quilting. The guild serves members from Cedar City, Enoch, Parowan, and nearby communities.

For 2026, the guild committed to making quilts for babies born at Cedar City Hospital. Local reporting said the project could require 800 to 900 quilts and invited fabric donations and additional volunteers.

Retreat and public quilt shows

The guild’s annual February retreat draws hundreds of quilters for classes, demonstrations, open sewing, workshops, and vendors. The 2026 retreat ran February 4-7 at the Heritage Center; check the guild website for the next registration period.

Two later events are open to public viewing. The Iron County Fair exhibit building in Parowan displays quilts and other handmade entries September 4-7, 2026, after judging on September 3. Visitors can vote for a People’s Choice winner.

The Cedar Chest Quilters Quilt Show is scheduled for October 23 and 24, 2026, in the Heritage Center lobby. The organizer describes about 100 traditional and modern quilts, including hand- and machine-quilted work from king-size quilts to runners and wall hangings. Admission is free.

Buying fabric in Iron County

Cedarloom Fabrics is a current Cedar City-based online retailer carrying quilting cotton, wovens, flannel, bundles, and notions. Its shipping policy confirms local pickup, with the pickup location supplied after the order is ready. Because it does not advertise public walk-in hours or a browsable storefront, it is included here as a local ordering option rather than as a directory shop.

Walmart’s official Cedar City page also advertises by-the-yard fabric cutting at its fabric table. That can cover a basic supply need, but it is not a substitute for a dedicated quilt store’s curated cotton, patterns, classes, or technical help.

Current third-party directories still list Stitching It Up at 117 N. Main Street, but its published website no longer resolves and we found no current first-party storefront page or inventory. It remains unlisted until active retail operations can be independently confirmed.
